About John Tree
John Tree is a British product and furniture designer based in London. He studied at Kingston University and began his career with stints in Tokyo, San Francisco and London. He then worked at Jasper Morrison’s studio before founding his own design studio in 2016. Today, Tree designs products for international clients in the fields of furniture, lighting and electronics, including Hay, Muuto, Motorola, Roli, Tala and others.
John Tree develops products based on industrial manufacturing processes. His design language is minimalist and strongly focused on function and construction. Many of his designs stem from a desire to strip complex products down to their essential components.
For Hay, he designed the Apex luminaires, as well as the Cupola Lamp Collection and the Annex Table Collection. The Apex luminaires exemplify his minimalist approach particularly well, featuring clean lines and a functional design suitable for both residential and contract settings.
His work has received international recognition, including the iF Design Award, the Red Dot Design Award and the Good Design Award (G-Mark Gold).
