Haus Otto

The artist and design duo Haus Otto specialises in industrial and object design, interior design and creative direction. With their interdisciplinary approach, Patrick Henry Nagel and Nils Körner combine various themes and fields of practice to explore the ecological and contextual aspects of contemporary design. The result is transformative and often humorous interventions that rethink design and bring it to life. Haus Otto met at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design, where both graduated in industrial design. They also studied at the Alvar Aalto University in Helsinki and at San José State University in California. Today they live and work in Stuttgart. One example of their work is the La Dré lamp, produced by Nils Holger Moormann. The round lampshade can be placed directly on the light bulb, turning it into a movable ball joint with a lighting function. By turning, tilting or swivelling, a variety of lighting moods can be created - a typical example of Haus Otto's playful and functional approach.
