For Michael Schwebius functionality is the key to good design. Since completing his carpentery apprenticeship and subsequent Interior Design studies in Flensburg, the designer has devoted himself primarily to the design of furniture: furniture created to be both meaningful and aesthetic, but above all fucntional. The coat rack Sticks, which Schwebius designed for the German manufacturer Schönbuch, is reminiscent of an art object or a figurative tree, but is primarily a functional clothes rack. In order to develop and implement designs according to his own wishes, Schwebius started his own business in 1987; currently based near Chiemsee, Bavaria, where he devotes himself not only to the design of furniture, but also the corporate design, interior design and the design of exhibition spaces.
