Michele De Lucchi

Italian designer and architect Michele De Lucchi, one of the founders of the legendary Memphis Group. The movement, founded in 1980 by Ettore Sottsass, rejected traditional design concepts and in particular opposed the prevalent production practices dictated by industry, and a break with conventions which was expressed in a completely new, challenging, disconcerting formal language. Since the demise of the Memphis Group in 1989, De Lucchi has developed on various projects, including works such as his Tolomeo lamps for Artemide - the first if which was created in 1987 - which do not follow the radical approach of the Memphis Group, but on the contrary convince through their restrained, clear design as functional desk lighting. Michele De Lucchi was born in 1951 in Ferrara, Italy. He studied architecture at the Politecnico in Milan, where he has also taught since 2008.
