Friedrich-Wilhelm Möller: Man as the measure of furniture
Friedrich-Wilhelm Möller was born in Lemgo in 1931. As the son of a master carpenter, he began an apprenticeship as a carpenter in 1944, initially with the aim of taking over his father's business. However, after passing his master craftsman's examination in 1951 at the technical college in Detmold, he studied interior design and from 1961 initially worked as a freelance sales representative for the then newly founded upholstered furniture manufacturer Cor.
In 1963, he founded his own interior design office and in the same year designed furniture for Cor the modular upholstered furniture system Conseta (named after the Latin verb consedere = to sit together). The system consists of various sofa elements that can be flexibly combined thanks to a stable flat steel frame and a simple lug-wedge connection.
Today, Conseta is regarded as one of Cor's most important design classics. In the following decades, the system was constantly expanded, including the addition of a sofa bed version in 1977. In 1987, Möller founded the company Möller Design in Lemgo, which specialised in timeless and independent designs. His work was always characterised by longevity and aesthetic restraint - true to his guiding principle that people should be the measure of all furniture. Friedrich-Wilhelm Möller died in 1996.
