Tomoko Azumi

Tomoko Azumi was born in 1966 in Hiroshima, Japan, and completed her Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Design at the Kyoto Municipal College in 1989 before moving to the Royal College of Art London in 1992 where she completed her Master's in Furniture Design in 1995. In 1995 she also established the design studio Azumi together with her then husband Shin Azumi, before in 2005 she opened the t.n.a. design studio in East London. The studio not only designs furniture, household products, electrical and lighting items, but also conducts workshops and research projects. With customers in Europe, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait, their partners include Guzzini, Habitat, Iittala, Keen, Röthlisberger, and Sfera. The interior architecture and furniture design for the United Kingdom Supreme Court are also part of the Azumis' label portfolio. Tomoko Azumi has also served as a juror for numerous design competitions, including the Good Design Award of the Japan Institute of Design Promotion, the imm Cologne Furniture Fair Design Awards, and the D&AD Design Awards.
