That the design of the Vitra Tripod Clock by George Nelson is not from this century, can be easily guessed. In the 50s, when the Vitra table clock originated, America was being moved by spiritual and material changes as the American dream grew into a desire for modern living standards for all. In response the architect and designer George Nelson designed numerous everyday objects, objects in which the form no longer merely followed the function. The Tripod Clock, which as with the rest of the Nelson desk clocks is produced today by Vitra, is a good example: it not only indicates the time, and that accurately thanks to its high-quality quartz movement, but with its shiny brass casing is also an elegant eye-catcher on any table or shelf.
