Lukas Buol & Marco Zünd
The Basel architecture firm Buol & Zünd was founded in 1991 by Lukas Buol and Marco Zünd. Both began their careers by training as structural draughtsmen before studying architecture together at the Basel School of Engineering. They quickly made a name for themselves with their first successful competition wins and innovative construction projects, and their work today covers a broad spectrum, from residential buildings and conversions to cultural facilities such as the award-winning Jazz Campus in Basel, which was honoured with the Arc Award 2016, among others.
In addition to architecture, they also repeatedly dedicate themselves to furniture design. One well-known example is the Zoll D shelving unit, which they designed for the manufacturer Nils Holger Moormann for the manufacturer Nils Holger Moormann, for which they were awarded the Swiss Design Prize in 1995. This design also reflects the office's clear design language and precise detail work in the furniture sector.
