For his Prismatic Table the American-Japanese designer Isamu Noguchi was inspired by traditional Japanese art of paper folding. Thus, the Vitra side table is composed of coated aluminium sheet that is folded into three pyramidal bodies, each of which acts as a table leg connected to a hexagonal table top. Without imposing itself on the space the Prismatic Table with its strict, geometric reduction provides for a self-confident accent and a traditional Japanese aesthetic.

Developed in 1957 the Prismatic Table was the first series-produced furniture from the American-Japanese designer Isamu Noguchi and is now distributed by Vitra. As with his other designs Noguchi combines in the extravagant side table elements of traditional Japanese craft, specifically here Japanese folding techniques. Thin, coated aluminium sheet is folded into three pyramidal bodies each of which act as a table leg and which are connected to an hexagonal table top. The result is a simple table, yet one whose strict, geometric reduction sets clear accents, and quite minimalist tone.
