The manufacturer Thonet is known for the production of numerous furniture classics which originated during the lifetime of the Bauhaus school. Among the most important of which are without question the numerous tubular steel furniture pieces by designer Marcel Breuer, who worked in the 1920s at the Bauhaus and through his experiments with the industrial material was the first to realise its potential in furniture production. One of the first products realised was the B 9 nesting tables, which thanks to their reduced form and number of variants, can be used as a set, individually, and in any number of different contexts and situations. With the "Pure Materials" edition the traditionally chrome plated frame is also available in a nickel plated version, in addition the table top is constructed from untreated oiled oak or oiled walnut. A special characteristic of the B 9 Pure Materials tables is the way they develop a patina over time and through use; thus over time the tables develop ever more to an individual and personal accessory. With the Pure Materials edition of the Breuer B 9 nesting tables Thonet have developed a new interpretation of the Bauhaus classic, yet one which remains true to Breuer's ideas and intentions.
