Eames Stools & Lobby Chairs

Vitra Eames Lobby Chairs

At first glance, the Eames Lobby Chairs and the Eames Stools by Vitra do not appear to have anything in common, but they were both created for the lobby of the Time Life Building in New York, the furnishing of which the Times Inc. commissioned from Charles and Ray Eames in 1960. The Eames Lobby Chair owes its high level of comfort in particular to its design principle: it consists of three individual upholstered parts connected by aluminium side parts and is available in various partially height-adjustable versions with sophisticated technical features such as a pleasant backrest tilting mechanism and with or without castors. Today the representative Vitra Lobby Chairs are among the classics of furniture design and can be found in conference rooms or lobbies of renowned companies and hotels. The Vitra Stools designed at the same time, on the other hand, are somewhat simpler. Made of solid walnut wood, the Eames Stools are available in variously turned profiles and are reminiscent of oversized chess pieces. As stools or side tables, the Stools not only set unmistakable sculptural accents, but also captivate with their pleasantly soft feel and score points for stability.
