Pier & Achille Castiglioni

Born in 1913 and 1918 respectively, Pier Giacomo & Achille Castiglioni, are, after Livio Castiglioni, the younger of the three Castiglioni brothers. All three studied architecture at the legendary Polytechnic in Milan, subsequently worked together in a joint studio, and today count among the most important post-war Italian designers. After Marcel Duchamp declared a bottle drier a sculpture - Pier Giacomo and Achille Castiglioni created a floating stool from a commercial tractor seat: the Mezzadro stool for Zanotta being just one of numerous objects which helped the brothers Castiglioni's reputation: and with such readymades and other pioneering lamp and industrial designs for manufacturers such as Artemide and Flos, Pier Giacomo and Achille Castiglioni shook the design world and subsequently forged their chapter in contemporary design history.
