FAQ
What is the difference between the Moormann FNP and the FNP X?
The FNP has a depth of 34 cm. The FNP X a depth 21 cm.
Can FNP X aluminium rails be ordered separately?
Yes. Should you wish to extend or otherwise reconfigure an existing FNP / FNP X, new rails can be ordered through smow.
Do I need a wall mounting set or other stabilisation measures with an FNP X?
Owing to the relatively narrow nature of the shelving units, the FNP X must be attached to the wall. A wall mounting kit is included.
The FNP X from Nils Holger Moormann is the slim version of the Moormann FNP shelving system and is particularly suitable for the storage of books and CDs. With its simple, innovative design principle and the reduced, transparent design, the Nils Holger Moormann FNP X clearly follows Moormann's design philosophy. It appears delicate, is however extremely durable as all elements within the system act to stabilize each other. The supporting side walls contain aluminium rails that support the shelves, the shelves in turn stabilize the rails. As always with Moormann furniture, assembling the FNP X shelves requires no tools, rather the individual elements are directly connected with one another. Depending on the location of use, additional stabilization options may be required, e.g., fixing brackets for wall fixing or stiffening elements for free-standing installation. As the dimensions of the units can be readily and freely adapted to suit individual needs the Moormann FNP X can be used in numerous locations; both professional and domestic. To help maximise this level of modularity the smow FNP X Configurator allows everyone to easily create their required FNP X unit choosing the materials, colours, shelf heights and widths as required.
Production
As a general rule the Aschau im Chiemgau based furniture producer Nils Holger Moormann accompanies the development of his furniture from the first prototype to serial production. Cooperating as far as possible with regionally-based, small and medium-sized businesses Moormann furniture can be considered responsible in terms of not only ecological aspects but also social: in this respect comes the fact that principally only natural materials are used and all timber used is sourced from FSC certified European forests. In addition all Nils Holger Moormann shelving is so designed so that it can be transported as the smallest possible volume. The shelving system FNP X is available with supporting side units and shelves made from MDF or FU (birch plywood) and comes in a range of colours and possible sizes.
Manufacturer
The manufacturer of FNP X shelving system is the company Moormann, a firm led since its inauguration in 1982 by its founder Nils Holger Moormann. Despite the international nature of the business Moormann remain very closely bound with the region and communities surrounding their base in Aschau im Chiemgau, Bavaria. In this respect the development and production of the company's furniture largely relies on the infrastructure of the area, for all in their use of local small and medium sized production fabrication and production companies. In addition the company renovated a disused former hotel in Aschau im Chiemgau into the contemporary auberge Berge. In Berge guests can enjoy the functional practicality and aesthetic ease of Moormann furniture, including, for example the Siebenschläfer bed in an environment supplied with green energy, geothermal heating and organic certified products.
Designer
Axel Kufus, designer of the FNP X, initially completed a cabinet makers apprenticeship before joining forces with the sculptor Richard Mühlemeier, with whom he established several wood and bronze workshops in the German town of Bischofsheim. Axel Kufus came to design place in the mid-eighties when he studied at the Academy of Arts in Berlin. As a partner in the Crelle Workshop in Berlin Kufus was free to experiment with different materials in the design and production of his furniture. Together with his wife, Axel Kufus founded in 1990, the agency "Factory Studio", which he still runs today in Berlin today. In addition to his own work as a designer Axel Kufus has also held various teaching posts: 1993-2004 Kufus taught product design at the Bauhaus University Weimar and is now a professor of "Designing and Design Development" at the University of Arts in Berlin. In addition to Kufus' FNP shelving and the FNP X, smow also offer the shelving system Egal which Kufus developed in 2001 for Moormann.
