Ethan Cook – Textile Art with Expressive Forms

The American artist and designer Ethan Cook (born in 1983 in Texas, USA) combines traditional weaving with a clear, minimalist design language. He became known for his large-scale, abstract works, which appear to be paintings but are in fact made entirely from hand-woven panels of fabric. The deliberate assembly of these handcrafted textiles results in striking compositions in which Colours, texture and material take centre stage.

Since 2009, Ethan Cook’s works have been on display internationally in exhibitions and at art fairs, including New York, Stockholm, Seoul, Rome, London, Paris, Zurich, Copenhagen and Los Angeles. His minimalist approach and deliberate use of textiles as a medium make him a defining voice in the contemporary art and design scene.

For Hay Ethan Cook designed the Flat Works Rug Collection. The clean, geometric blocks of colour echo the design of his artworks and combine them with high-quality craftsmanship (the Kelim rugs are manufactured using a blend of New Zealand wool and organic cotton). The result is a range of timeless designer rugs that enrich modern living spaces with graphic clarity and a distinctive textural quality.
