Desk Clocks
More than simple alarm clocks: Decorative table clocks
As with wall clocks the actual function of table clocks is charting the progress of time; however, designer table and wall clocks additionally have a special meaning as decorative objects, and - think of the elaborate table clocks from the Baroque period - a long tradition in prestigious and private spaces. George Nelson is one of the mid-twentieth-century designers who most enthusiastically adopted the genre desk clock. In addition to a series of wall clocks, today classics of the Mid-Century Design, he created no less iconic table clocks, now reissued by Vitra as the Nelson Clocks. These include original, playful models such as the Night Clock or the Diamond Clock with their unmistakable 1950s charm. The Danish design icon Arne Jacobsen also developed a series of table clocks: The AJ Roman table clock or the AJ Bankers desk clock and other simple models are now produced by Rosendahl.
