Designed in 1933 by the Thonet Design Team, the B 97 Glass nesting tables stand in the finest traditions of Bauhaus tables and for all that tradition as established by Marcel Breuer, who a few years earlier had developed the B 9 nesting tables and thus made tubular steel acceptable for the production of furniture. Unlike Breuer's tables the Thonet tables are open on one side and thus mimic formally the frame of cantilever chairs in whose development Marcel Breuer was also involved. The innovative aspect of the B 97 Glass is the glass table top: an adaptation which perfectly fits the aesthetics of the B 97 and which supports its discreet spatial effect. Whether used as a bedside table, in the hallway or as a reduced coffee table the Thonet B 97 Glass with its functionalist attitude is guaranteed to cut a good, if reserved, figure. With an in-house team of designers, engineers and craftsmen, the family-run company Thonet develops contemporary and timeless products from its base in Frankenberg, Germany from a set of principles based on creating aesthetic and functional furniture and the use of excellent craftsmanship and resource-saving technologies.
