Born in London in 1959, Jasper Morrison studied design in London, before a scholarship took him to the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin in 1984. In 2000 he designed the Air-Chair, a work which on account of its reduced design and its simple elegance is widely celebrated as a classic representative of the "New Simplicity", a movement which is strongly influenced by Jasper Morrison. The Magis Air-Chair is made of glass fibre reinforced polypropylene, which gives it a stability and robustness making it usable both indoors and outdoors. As a material plastic can be easily formed and is universal in applications, thus the Italian manufacturer Magis initially placed their focus on the development of plastic chairs and tables. In more recent years however the company has added other materials such as aluminium and wood, to their portfolio. As a further development of the Magis Air-Chair Jasper Morrison created Magis Air-Armchair, which is, as the name implies, also equipped with armrests.
