The design of the PH 4/3 Pendant Lamp dates from the year 1929 and the Danish designer Poul Henningsen and is produced today, as always, by the Danish manufacturer Louis Poulsen, a company who specialise in functional yet aesthetic lighting for residential and commercial environments, both indoors and outdoors, and whose field of activity is thus probably best described as "light architecture". An excellent example of the interaction of design and technology that underscores the Louis Poulsen philosophy is the PH 4/3 Pendant Lamp, a work in which Poul Henningsen realised his idea of glare-free, downwards directed light. The three screens of the PH 4/3 are crafted from extruded aluminium, with a colour powder coated exterior and white painted interior and which provides for a soft, downwardly directed, evenly distributed light and a pleasant, comfortable atmosphere.

What does the '4/3' stand for in the PH 4/3 pendant lamp?
The numbers of the Poul Henningsen lamp names provide information concerning the size and relationship of the three lampshades to one another.
In the case of the PH 4/3 pendant lamp, the 4 stands for the diameter of the upper, largest lampshade, which measures 4 decimeters, i.e. 40 cm.
The 3 means that the two lower lampshades are proportioned in a ratio of 3:2:1 to an upper lampshade diameter of 30 cm - as found in the PH 3/3.
This means that the PH 4/3 pendant lamp combines the upper lampshade of the PH 4/4 with the two lower lampshades of the PH 3/3.
The PH lamps with "half" sizes are particularly suitable for hanging low in the room.
