The Cassina 8 Tabouret tournant or LC8 Swivel Stool by Charlotte Perriand is in many respects an alternative version of the classic "fauteuil tournant" LC7 Swivel Chair, with the difference that here the backrest has been omitted. Whether used in the office or in the living area the Cassina LC8 is not only a variable and universally applicable piece of furniture but also an excellent addition to the series of LC furniture created by Charlotte Perriand in collaboration with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret.

How do I recognise an original 8 Tabouret tournant (LC8 swivel stool) from Cassina?

Each piece of furniture from the "Cassina i Maestri Collection" is authenticated by a stamp with the designer's signature and a unique identification number.

What is the new name of the LC 8 swivel stool from Cassina?

In September 2022 the LC8 swivel stool was renamed Tabouret tournant by Cassina.

Why have the Cassina products of the LC collection been renamed?

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Cassina iMaestri collection in 2023, it was agreed with the heirs and foundations of Le Corbusier®️, Pierre Jeanneret®️ and Charlotte Perriand®️ to return to the objects original French names. The prefix "LC" has therefore be removed from the affected products, and now onlw the number is listed together with the product name (e.g. 8 Tabouret tournant).

Design Story

The LC8 Swivel Stool has been produced by Cassina since 1978 and is an alternative version of the "fauteuil tournant" originally designed by Charlotte Perriand for her own apartment in Paris. Without the backrest which characterises the LC7 Swivel Chair the Cassina stool was craeted with the intentions of being a mass produceable industrial product which is composed of standardized elements. A construction principle and philosophy which ensure that the work continues to impress with its simple design and high degree of functionality. The soft seat cushion with polyurethane foam makes it a particularly comfortable and convenient seating solution in the office or home while the 4 fixed legs bequeath the round stool the necessary stability. As a product from the LC Collection, a collection which was developed between 1927 and 1929 by the designer trio Charlotte Perriand, Pierre Jeanneret and Le Corbusier, the LC8 is now produced exclusively by Cassina and the manufacturer stamps the frame of every stool with their logo, the signature of the designer and a serial number to distinguish the original from the many fakes available. The Italian manufacturer Cassina, a long established manufacturer known for its high quality designer products, lists the furniture of the LC series in its "I Maestri" Collection, a collection which is also home to the works of many great masters and which is complimented by "I Contemporanei" which, and as the name implies, consists of articles by contemporary designers.
