Design Story

Designed by Philippe Starck for Kartell the chair La Marie is a very special seating object: the first transparent chair in the world. Created with the help of a special production process developed by Kartell, La Marie is moulded in one piece of polycarbonate, giving it its characteristic, transparent look. Other objects in the room or in the garden are visible through the Kartell chair, thus meaning La Marie can be used in even the smallest of rooms without appearing to take up too much space. Stackable La Marie is just as at home indoors as outdoors and is thus a true all-rounder. For over forty years the focus of the Italian manufacturer Kartell has been firmly placed on the production of contemporary designer furniture made of plastic, and in that time the company has established an enviable portfolio of products which are not only functional but also characterised by their individuality and strength of character.
