Designer Konstantin Grcic once described his relationship his Magis Chair_One thus, "It possesses an inner logic and its structure is without ornament, but I would still not refer to it as minimalist. In fact, it is really quite complex. It is precisely this form of simplicity that I like"

Design Story

Developed in 2003 by designer Konstantin Grcic for the Italian manufacturer Magis Chair_One offers a combination of geometric aesthetics and industrial production. Born in 1965 in Munich, Grcic initially completed an apprenticeship in carpentry before deciding to study design. On account of his education and background Grcic succeeds probably more competently than any of his peers in combining contemporary production techniques, innovative materials, design and architecture into unconventional, yet easily accessible, objects. Consisting of graphic elements the seat and backrest of Chair_One initially appear complex, this impression is however broken by the clear geometry and the formal rigour of the composition, an effect which Grcic himself describes as "complex and yet simple". The legs of the Magis chair are made of polished, anodised or painted aluminium, the seat in die cast aluminium optionally available in a version surface treated with sputtered fluorinated titanium and painted in polyester powder. A robust and durable piece of industrial production the Magis Chair_One is exceptionally weather and fire resistant and is thus particularly suitable for outdoor use, be that in private or commercial situations.

Chair_One from Magis is just at home in large as in small spaces
