Warren Platner

Born in Maryland in 1919, Warren Platner completed his architectural studies at Cornell University in 1941 and subsequently worked with world-renowned architects such as Raymond Loewy or Eero Saarinnen before establishing his own architectural office. Choosing only to employ those capable of interior decoration as well as architecture, one of Platner's most important projects is the Georg Jensen Design Center. In addition he was also involved in Dulles International Airport, Washington, DC, and parts of the Lincoln Center; however, he gained international fame through his furniture collection for Knoll - the Platner collection, created in 1966, and a parade example for the modernism of the 1960s. Featuring chairs, upholstered stools and tables, the Platner collection is still produced by Knoll International. Warren Platner defined classics as things which are understood for what they are every time you look at them, and where you can not see any improvement: and with the stylish design of his Platner collection, he elegantly practised what he preached. Platner remained active until a few months before his death on 20 April 2006.
