For their Vitra Slow Chair the designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec re-interpreted one of the more traditional furniture genres - the classic lounge chair. The Slow Chair is namely not elaborately upholstery, but features a steel tube frame over which an exactly formed knitted, resilient fabric is stretched. Thus the Slow Chair presents itself as a remarkably open and light object - and that without compromising on comfort and convenience. Aiding the Bouroullec lounge chair add a distinctive atmosphere are the four colour combinations of cover, pillow and frame.

Design Story

The brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec are internationally renowned designers well known for their clear, functional and very contemporary design. Designs such as the Slow Chair from Vitra. Particularly interesting about the Vitra lounge chair is that the Bouroullecs have taken a very traditional furniture genre and presented it in an unconventional and innovative way. Instead of elaborate upholstery familiar in context of lounge chairs the Vitra Slow Chair consists namely of a tubular steel frame over which an exactly formed knitted, extremely resilient fabric is stretched. The special fabric thus ensures a soft, ergonomic seating comfort, which is further enhanced by thin seat and back cushions. Instead of the normal heavy and clunky feel the Vitra Slow Chair exudes an immense sense of lightness - and that without compromising on comfort and convenience. In addition, four different, perfectly coordinated colour combinations of cover, pillow and framework allow the object to pass perfectly in any space. The matching Slow Chair Ottoman is available separately.
