M4R - Bauhaus on Wheels
With the M4R serving trolley German furniture manufacturer Tecta has realised something special: based on the Bauhaus classics from the Tecta portfolio, the elegant serving trolley is made up of the large spoked wheels of the Bauhaus lounger F41-E and the elegantly curved frame of the Bauhaus coffee table M40. Designed in the spirit of Marcel Breuer, the M4R creates a noble, nostalgic atmosphere with the elegance of classic modernity and offers everything important in a functional serving trolley: thanks to the sufficient space on two levels, crockery, bottles, accessories and even books can be stored on the Tecta serving trolley. The M4R can be used in a variety of ways as a side table or trolley and thanks to its elegantly curved steel rail can be easily moved from all sides.
Functional and unique in design: The M4R in detail
An optional bottle holder provides additional security in the mobile minibar. The embedded plates nickel-plated tubular steel in the frame are also available in different versions.
Tecta furniture is primarily manufactured in Germany and at the Tecta company headquarters in Lauenförde, where the individual carpentry, upholstery, braiding and metalworking workshops are based. Metal processing at the Tecta site includes bending, punching, welding and surface finishing. Tecta obtains the tubular steel for the M4R serving trolley, and the other Tecta furniture in Rhineland, the precision frames are bent at the company headquarters and by a Tecta partner in Upper Franken. High-gloss chrome plating is manufactured in Bayern in accordance with the strict German environmental protection guidelines. In addition to the latest technology, Tecta focuses in particular on traditional craftsmanship in production. Only the best wood is processed, which is checked for first-class quality by the local wood trade.

Perfect as both a serving trolley and as a side table
As a manufacturer of re-editions of licensed Bauhaus originals, Tecta sees its task on the one hand to preserve the heritage of International Modernism, and at the same time also further developing this heritage and, if necessary, improving it. Thus the company not only produces originals by designers such as Marcel Breuer or Walter Gropius, but also realizes contemporary designs and furniture under its own name, such as the serving trolleys M4R and M4RS. Through developing new furniture in the Bauhaus spirit, Tecta is continuing the Bauhaus design philosophy and keeping it alive. This also means that Tecta implements special requests from customers that go far beyond the limits of the range.
With individualization and custom-made products according to customer requirements, Tecta sets an example for sustainability and against the flood of faceless mass-produced goods. In this way, Tecta continues to design in the spirit of Bauhaus and thus pursues an idealism that is opposed to economic efficiency that is purely geared to profit.
Even if the M4R console trolley is a contemporary design, the Bauhaus lounger F41-E and the Bauhaus M40 coffee table as reference points clearly place it in the context of Bauhaus design. It can thus be read as an extension of the design theory of the Bauhaus, which, after it was founded by Walter Gropius in Weimar in 1916, established completely new concepts and threw the conventions of the time overboard. The aim was to design timeless furniture and everyday objects by focusing on the functionality of the design and the possibilities of production. As with Tecta, the workshops therefore played a central role as a counterpart to theoretical training. From 1922, the Bauhaus increasingly advocated industrial production, which made serial production possible and was intended to make Bauhaus furniture accessible to a broader public. The introduction of tubular steel, which was used in Bauhaus designs from 1921 and with its cool shine became a symbol of the reform character of modernism, is particularly symbolic.
M4R: Limousine among the mobile side tables
Tecta is a family business managed in the fourth generation by Christian Drescher at the company's headquarters in Lauenförde, directly on the banks of the Weser. The name derives from the Latin tectere, which means design or execution, and is also part of the Tecta program: a company specializing in traditional handicraft techniques including the carpentry and upholstery practised at the company's headquarters, while the continuation of wicker weaving craft has been a particular focus of Tecta for over the past 40 years. As with Knoll International or Cassina, the company also produces furniture with a focus on modern avant-garde designs by designers such as Walter Gropius or Marcel Breuer. Of around 100 products in the permanent range, 30 bear the Bauhaus signet, works produced true to the original and under license as re-editions approved by the Bauhaus Archive Berlin.
