Poul Henningsen designed the PH 3/2 Pendant Light in 1929, and the lamp is today, as then, produced by the Danish company Louis Poulsen: a producer whose activity is probably best described as "light architecture". Louis Poulsen specialises in the creation of technically intelligent yet aesthetic lighting solutions for residential and business uses, both indoors and outdoors. A perfect example of the interaction of design and technology mastered by Louis Poulsen is the PH 3/2 Pendant Lamp in which Poul Henningsen realised his idea of glare-free, functional light. Taking advantage of the logarithmic spiral and opal glass, he managed to create a diffuse reflection, through which the light shines not only down, but also into the room and thus illuminates with a warm, soft light.

What does the '3/2' stand for in the PH 3/2 pendant lamp?
The numbers of the Poul Henningsen lamp names provide information concerning the size and relationship of the three lampshades to one another.
In the case of the PH 3/2 pendant lamp, the 3 stands for the diameter of the upper, largest lampshade, which measures 3 decimeters, i.e. 30 cm.
The 2 means that the two lower lampshades are proportioned in a ratio of 3:2:1 to an upper lampshade diameter of 20 cm - as found in the PH 2/2.
This means that the PH 3/2 pendant lamp combines the upper lampshade of the PH 3/3 with the two lower lampshades of the PH 2/2.
The PH lamps with "half" sizes are particularly suitable for hanging low in the room.
