The Vitra Amoebe lounge chair was developed in 1970 by Verner Panton for his Visiona installation - a visionary colorful living landscape which he presented at the Cologne Furniture Fair. Like most of Panton's designs the Amoebe lounge chair presents a very organic form language, based on structures inspired by nature. Based on single-celled organisms with no fixed body shape, the seat and backrest of the lounge chair appears a single flowing form, and one which ergonomically hugs the body. The flexible backrest and a high-quality upholstery provide for high seating comfort. In addition, the humorous approach of Panton's design is emphasized by a range of covers in eight strong, bright colours. With the Amoebe Highback the Vitra lounge chair is also available with a particularly high, curved backrest, an amoeba as an especially cozy retreat.

...Similarly from the objects Verner Panton designed for Visiona 2 only the Amoebe chair, Cloverleaf sofa and the Spiral, Ball and VP-Globe lamps are currently in production...
