DCM means Dining Chair Metal.
The DCM multi-purpose chair was designed by the famous designer couple Charles and Ray Eames and is now produced by the Swiss furniture manufacturer Vitra. Among the production models developed by the Eames's was the concept of combining a seat shell with a range of different bases, and thus to offer versions for different situations. Such is also the case with the chairs of the Plywood Group - a groups which resulted from years of experimentation with forming laminated plywood into stable, robust and comfortable seat and backrests. In the case of the Vitra DCM they combined the moulded plywood seat and backrest with a simple steel tube base, and which is slightly higher than that of his nearest relative, the LCM lounge chair. However just as with the LCM the Vitra DCM impresses with its striking contrast of moulded plywood and chrome plated metal, and the special lightness that consequently arises.
