Cassina Le Corbusier®, Pierre Jeanneret®, Charlotte Perriand® – Cassina i Maestri Collection
The LC Collection
One of the most successful product ranges from the Italian furniture manufacturer Cassina is the LC Collection: a series of high quality armchairs, sofas, chairs and tables, as well as the LC4 chaise longue, which was named by the eponymous architect Le Corbusier. Developed at the beginning of the 20th century in collaboration with Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret, the continued success of the LC furniture is primarily thanks to its extraordinary design, that is, its combination of functionality and its characteristic aesthetics as well as the unique quality in which they have been produced by Cassina for more than 50 years. Above all, the LC furniture embodies those radical ideas of Le Corbusier; true to the motto "The house is a machine for living, an armchair is a machine for sitting", Le Corbusier expressed the view that furniture had to be highly functional and adapted to the needs of people, and that their aesthetics could be derived from this very efficiency. Thus, the designs from the LC1 armchair to the LC10-P table are characterized by their formal rigour and the renunciation of all ornamental augmentation. Simple tubular steel frames hold the strictly geometrical upholstered upholstery of the LC2 chair and the LC2 sofa; the reclining surface of the famous chaise longue LC4 is borrowed from the sweeping silhouette and body dimensions of the human. In producing the design classics, Cassina relies on the combination of modern technology and proven craftsmanship.
