Romano Marcato
Romano Marcato
Romano Marcato arrived at furniture design via a circuitous route, from which he benefits today as the head of his own furniture company Lapalma. Born in 1951 in Cadoneghe near Padua, Marcato studied mechanics at a technical college for industry until 1970. Until 1978 he was planning manager and designer at an industrial manufacturer of small metal hardware, where he specialized, for example, in high-speed stamping processes for precision metal parts and cable junction boxes. In the following years he also developed machines for the automotive and electronics industries. In 1979 Marcato founded the furniture company Lapalma with his brother Dario, and initially designed and developed all products himself. Today Lapalma works with numerous internationally renowned designers, while Romano Marcato, who himself designed some of the most popular Lapalma furniture, such as the Lapalma Brio Table, is responsible for overseeing the technical processes. His expertise enables him to drive the implementation of complex designs and, if necessary, to adapt machine systems individually.
