The DHS10 shelving system was designed by Herbert Hirche in 1954. Originally produced by Christian Holzäpfel KG, the shelving system has been produced by the Stuttgart based manufacturer Richard Lampert since 2019, who also sell the original Eiermann tables, under the product name "Hirche DHS 10". With a base structure made of tubular steel, the shelving system stands as a classic representative of industrial design, yet thanks to its wooden shelves, rear panels and cabinet modules appears warm and homely. The individual elements of the Hirche shelf can be combined and expanded in many ways and make the design classic into a flexible living room or office furniture. Herbert Hirche is one of the most important architects and designers of the 1950s and 60s. After studying carpentry, he studied at the Bauhaus in Dessau and Berlin, among others with Kandinsky and Mies van der Rohe, in whose office he later worked. This was followed by further work with Egon Eiermann and Hans Scharoun. In addition, Herbert Hirche taught at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee from 1948 and later at the Staatliche Akademie der bildenden Künste in Stuttgart. As a freelance architect, Hirche contributed significantly to the development of product design in post-war Germany and was a member of the Deutscher Werkbund, the Association of German Industrial Designers and the German Design Council.
