Markus Johansson

"For me, design is about conveying a feeling that impacts people's lives and improves everyday life by combining construction, function and form."

Markus Johansson is a furniture and product designer based in Gothenburg, Sweden. He stands for a structured, dynamic design: individual elements are connected to each other, occasionally seemingly tangled up in one another, yet never by accident, always following a plan. Something ably demonstrated by the Nest Chair, work which is in the permanent collection of MAD, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York.

As a designer Johansson is inspired by people, objects and environments, which he analyses to create products in his design studio in central Gothenburg that combine creativity and beauty with functionality. Together with the Danish manufacturer Le Klint, Markus Johansson developed Carronade - once intended as a table lamp that resembles a cannon illuminated from the inside, but which developed to become a lighting family consisting of pendant, table and floor lamps.
