P376 Pendant Lamp

Kastholm & Fabricius

Jørgen Kastholm (1931-2007) and Preben Juhl Fabricius (1931-1984) met in the 1950s while studying interior design in Copenhagen. After both had gained their first experiences abroad - Kastholm was inspired by the creations of Charles & Ray Eames in the USA, among others - they founded a joint design studio in 1961. From their eight-year partnership emerged numerous classics of mid-century design, which they designed exclusively for the German furniture manufacturer Alfred Kill. On the basis of steel, glass and leather, a clear influence of the Bauhaus can be seen in their pieces of furniture, in contrast to the wooden Scandinavian Design of their homeland. Kastholm & Fabricius primarily combined the pursuit of high-quality furniture with aesthetic and ergonomic design and the passion for functionalism - a move that made functional and beautiful design furniture affordable for the general public. Today, their designs, like the P376 Pendant Lamp, are produced by &Tradition and Walter Knoll.
