Inga Sempé
Born in Paris Inga Sempé has established herself as one of the most important contemporary French designers. A graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle (ENSCI), Paris, Sempé gained experience in the studios of renowned designers such as Marc Newson and Andrée Putman in the early years of her career before in 2000 she established her own design studio in her native Paris.
Inga Sempé is known for her creative and functional designs which are characterised by a perfect balance between technical precision and aesthetic lightness. Her furniture, lamps and everyday objects are characterized by minimalist shapes, innovative material combinations and a subtle playfulness.
She works for international design brands such as Ligne Roset, HAY, Wästberg, Mutina and Alessi. An outstanding example of her recent work is the Matin lamp collection for the Danish label HAY. The collection features colourful, folded textile shades and delicate metal structures that combine modern lightness with a touch of classic elegance.
Inga Sempé has received numerous awards, including the Grand Prix de la Création from the City of Paris in the field of design and a scholarship from the Villa Medici in Rome.
