About dreipunkt 4

Fold up and stow away to save space or, as here in blue, simply hang on the wall: the Falter folding stool from dreipunkt 4

The design collective dreipunkt 4 shows how great small furniture can be. With the Falter folding stool, the designers from Halle have created a sophisticated stool design: thanks to technical precision, surfaces are transformed into space and a stable structure in no time at all.

dreipunkt 4 is made up of four creative minds: Martin Büdel, Achim Hack, Wolfgang Kreser and Astrid Pankrath. They met at Burg Giebichenstein in Halle in the mid-1990s. Their trademark is an understanding of design that combines the art of engineering with a minimalist style. Every hinge, every joint and every material fulfils a clear function.

The Falter, designed in 2002/2003, is a prime example of their approach. When folded, it looks like a graphic panel, but unfolds into a sturdy piece of seating furniture with a flick of the wrist. High-precision milling in the multiplex material and a robust fabric as an invisible hinge make it both functional and elegant. Today, the Falter is produced exclusively by smow.

The minds behind the collective continue to shape design, teaching and architecture to this day: Achim Hack teaches as Professor of Design and Construction in Wismar, Martin Büdel heads the workshops at Burg Giebichenstein, Astrid Pankrath develops holistic spatial concepts in Berlin and Wolfgang Kreser designs public spaces and museums in Halle.
