The collection: modern classics and iconic contemporary furniture designs

ClassiCon stands for designer furniture that combines timeless elegance, simplicity and originality. The collection combines classics from designers such as Eileen Gray and Eckart Muthesius with innovative designs by contemporary designers such as Konstantin Grcic, Victoria Wilmotte, Sebastian Herkner or Guilherme Torres.

The ClassiCon portfolio ranges from tables and seating furniture to lamps, mirrors and secretaries through to standing desks, wardrobes, shelves, consoles and screens and is complemented by carpets, accessories and limited editions. Some of the best-known furniture designs are the side table Adjustable Table E 1027 from 1927 and the Bibendum armchair from 1929 by Eileen Gray, the Nymphenburg Coat Stand by Otto Blümel from 1908, Jader Almeida's Euvira rocking chair, as well as the elegant Bell Side Table by Sebastian Herkner from 2017, in which glass and metal are combined using high-quality craftsmanship.

Whether in living rooms, stylish offices, prestigious reception areas or elegant lounges - ClassiCon furniture blends harmoniously into a wide variety of furnishing styles, from minimalist-modern to classic-elegant.

History and production of ClassiCon furniture

Founded in 1990 by Stephan Fischer von Poturzyn, a former member of the board of the Vereinigte Werkstätten, ClassiCon has established itself as an internationally recognised manufacturer of designer furniture. Shortly before the dissolution of the Vereinigte Werkstätten für Kunst im Handwerk in Munich (1991), Fischer von Poturzyn took over the worldwide licence agreements for their most important design classics. ClassiCon thus took over the legacy of this traditional company and secured the continuation of the production of designs by Eileen Gray, Eckart Muthesius and Otto Blümel.

For many years, the company has been managed by Oliver Holy, who has characterised ClassiCon with his passion for design, architecture and art. Under his leadership, numerous designs by renowned international designers such as Konstantin Grcic, Sebastian Herkner, Neri & Hu and Jader Almeida have been added to the portfolio.

Manufacturing takes place in Germany and northern Italy, in close cooperation with small, family-run manufacturers. Each piece of furniture undergoes several quality controls and combines traditional craftsmanship with modern production technology. ClassiCon is also a worldwide licencee for Aram Design Ltd, London, and thus produces the original designs by Eileen Gray at the company headquarters in Munich.

Traditional craftsmanship at ClassiCon

From Eileen Gray to Konstantin Grcic: modern and contemporary designers in dialogue

ClassiCon produces furniture designs by established designers and newcomers - alongside Eileen Gray, Konstantin Grcic and Sebastian Herkner are probably among the best known. ClassiCon has been working with Konstantin Grcic since the early 2000s to develop innovative product ideas that reinterpret classic design principles. At the same time, the company is opening up to a new generation of creative talent, including Victoria Wilmotte, Sandra Lindner and Guilherme Torres, who enrich the portfolio with fresh perspectives and contemporary designs. The result is a finely tuned collection that encompasses design classics and contemporary furniture designs in equal measure.

Fair working conditions at ClassiCon and all suppliers
ClassiCon furniture is produced in cooperation with suppliers in Germany and northern Italy who, like ClassiCon, adhere to the standards of the International Labour Organisation (ILO). The institution, whose permanent members include Germany and Italy, was founded to promote social justice as well as human and labour rights. As all of ClassiCon's suppliers are located in Europe, they are also obliged to comply with the strict requirements of the EU with regard to safety, environmental protection and working conditions.

Selected suppliers
ClassiCon's suppliers are small companies and manufacturers in northern Italy and Bavaria. They are often family-run companies that have been in business for generations and hold ISO certificates or the Blue Angel eco-label. The bases of the Bell Side Table by Sebastian Herkner, for example, are produced by the glass manufacturer Freiherr von Poschinger, which celebrated its 450th anniversary in 2018. In this way, ClassiCon supports the local economy and traditional craftsmanship.

Long-lasting products and environmentally friendly materials
With the ClassiCon stamp, the company guarantees that ecologically sound materials are processed with excellence and that every single piece has undergone strict quality control. As ClassiCon furniture is therefore particularly durable, the company contributes to the conservation of resources. The wood used in ClassiCon furniture is also predominantly sourced from Germany. In an international comparison, Germany has long been a leader in terms of sustainable forestry. In turn, leather is supplied by small farms in Bavaria and comes exclusively from cattle slaughtered for meat production. All materials processed by ClassiCon can be recycled separately when they are disposed of. Packaging materials are also used as sparingly as possible and the company endeavours to avoid the use of polystyrene.
