The Design
Among the high tables, the lectern Milla by Otto Sudrow is distinguished by simplicity, a fair price and a clever design principle. The latter allows Milla to be easily disassemble and reassembled. Otto Sudrow refers in his lectern directly to the design principle of the classic Eiermann table, an object produced by Richard Lampert since 1993. The so-called Eiermann lectern is suitable for those who like to read work and/or perform standing. Thanks to the extension rods Milla is adjustable in height between 105-135 centimetres. The adjustable feet meanwhile ensure that Milla remains safe and stable even on on uneven ground. To provide extra comfort when standing a footrest is integrated into the lower part of the frame.
Designer
Otto Sudrow who developed the Milla lectern in 1990 for Richard Lampert was born in 1941 and studied product design in Stuttgart. After graduating he initially worked as a research assistant at the University of Stuttgart and then as a teaching assistant in the product design department at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart. In addition Sudrow headed the "Magazin Warenhandelsgesellschaft for technical goods and Einrichtungsbedarf" in Stuttgart and was co-founder of Designer Societät, an industrial design office which works across a range of products. In addition to his work as a freelance industrial designer Otto Sudrow also undertook teaching assignments at various design schools and worked as a visiting professor of design theory at the University of Arts in Berlin.
Production
Milla, the Eiermann friendly high desk is produced by Richard Lampert. Although for the Stuttgart based manufacture creative quality has always been important, sustainability plays a central role in the creation of all Richard Lampert products. Specifically this means not only that the furniture is designed to withstand short-term trends, but is also produced such that they are durable and long lasting. Milla consists of a steel tube frame available in a range of colours and finishes and a table top crafted from melamine or linoleum with oak edging. The linoleum table top is available in the colours black, blue, grey and red, the melamine version in black or white.
Manufacturer
In 1993, Richard Lampert, who had already gained extensive experience in the furniture business, established his own contemporary furniture label in Stuttgart. He had previously acquired the licenses to the almost lost Egon Eiermann furniture; including the new edition of the Eiermann table to which the design of Milla high desk refernces. The Lampert range was however quickly expanded beyond Eiermann and today Richard Lampert offers a portfolio of furniture designs b a roster of international designers: sophisticated and intelligent designs, but still affordable for as Richard Lampert himself says he never intended to produce "furniture for the rich". In addition to furniture from designers such as Egon Eiermann, Herbert Hirche and Peter Horn Richard Lampert has also recently launched a successful collection of children's furniture.
