As part of the refurbishment of a regional office of the german insurance company Mecklenburgische Versicherungsgesellschaft in a distinctive historic building in Potsdam, the existing space was comprehensively reorganised and adapted to meet modern working requirements. The aim was to create a contemporary working environment that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
The holistic design approach encompassed not only the furnishings but also a well-thought-out lighting and acoustic concept. Particular attention was paid to combining aesthetics and functionality in order to support efficient workflows whilst creating a pleasant atmosphere. The concept was complemented by a coordinated colour scheme and carefully selected planting elements, which have a positive effect on the indoor climate.
The result is a modern, flexible working environment that meets the demands of contemporary working practices whilst significantly enhancing comfort for staff and visitors alike.
The key challenge was to develop a contemporary spatial concept that both supports existing work processes and meets the requirements of future-oriented working. Existing storage solutions were critically examined, reimagined and sensibly integrated into the overall concept.
At the same time, the aim was to create ergonomic workspaces that offer staff a versatile and flexible working environment. The focus was on providing both areas for open, collegial interaction and quiet spaces that allow for concentrated, undisturbed work.
The space has been transformed into a clearly structured sequence of rooms, in which work areas and social zones are functionally coordinated. Inviting meeting places designed to encourage lively team interaction, as well as a flexible space for meetings and training sessions, have been specifically integrated into the layout.
The furnishings, lighting and acoustic design, as well as the colour scheme and greenery, work in harmony to support the various functional requirements. A complementary outdoor area expands the range of uses and enhances the quality of the space.
The design draws on the identity of the management offices in the historic building and translates it into a contemporary design language.
Historicism in a new, modern splendour - the conversion project of the listed building Alsterglacis 8 was a remarkable undertaking in which the close and extremely productive cooperation with lap Architekten was invaluable.
