The Athleticum at Volkspark in Hamburg is a state-of-the-art centre for sports, exercise and preventive medicine, located right next to the HSV Volkspark Stadium. The new four-storey building, covering an area of around 5,000 m², brings together top-quality medical care, innovative diagnostic and treatment facilities, and cutting-edge rehabilitation and preventive services under one roof.
For smow Hamburg, the task was to fit out the entire new building in a way that was functional, high-quality and, at the same time, prestigious. The challenge was to integrate the diverse requirements of various institutions and user groups – including medical departments, administration, therapy and diagnostic areas, as well as communal and communication zones – into a holistic interior design concept.
Particular attention was paid to combining functionality, ergonomics and design quality. In addition to the high technical and organisational standards required of a modern medical centre, it was also necessary to take into account the specific requirements regarding workflows, hygiene, durability and user comfort.
Through close consultation with all project stakeholders and precise coordination of the fitting-out processes, smow Hamburg was able to deliver a bespoke interior design solution that meets the high standards of the Athleticum. The result is a modern, professional yet welcoming environment that both optimally supports medical operations and offers patients and visitors a high-quality setting.
The particular challenge of the project lay in coordinating and communicating between seven different companies and institutions – Athleticum, HSV, Philips, STP, UKE, Nest One GmbH and smow Hamburg. Different requirements, technical specifications and individual ideas had to be reconciled through joint decision-making processes and consolidated into a unified solution. The aim was to optimally coordinate all aspects of the new building in terms of function, design and organisation, whilst simultaneously meeting the high standards of quality, efficiency and user comfort.
The implementation of the project was characterised by close consultation and coordination between the seven companies and institutions involved – Athleticum, HSV, Philips, STP, UKE, Nest One GmbH and smow Hamburg. The focus was on bringing together the various requirements, technical specifications and expectations within a structured process and using this to establish a common basis for decision-making.
Particular attention was paid to the entrance area, which was deliberately designed to be eye-catching and inviting. Spacious seating areas and a striking lighting concept create a memorable first impression – not least because, on match days, numerous football fans pass by the building. At the same time, the design had to cater to the different user groups: from patients to the HSV women’s and men’s teams, right through to the requirements of a modern medical practice. This has resulted in an environment that combines professionalism, a pleasant atmosphere and a sporting identity.
The Dein Dental office is not only characterized by its location in Hamburg's Speicherstadt, but also by its design, which subtly references the characteristic brick buildings and thus harmoniously rounds off the overall concept.
